서울대학교 정치학과를 졸업하고 같은 학교 대학원에서 석사 학위를, 미국 시카고 대학에서 박사 학위를 받았다. 2003년 귀국 후 한양대학교 정치외교학과에서 전임강사를 거쳐 조교수로 재직했으며, 2008년부터는 서울대학교 정치학과(현 정치외교학부 정치학 전공)로 옮겨 현재 부교수로 재직 중이다. 저자는 자본주의와 민주주의의 다양한 결합 방식, 특히 경제적으로 효율적이면서 동시에 심화된 민주주의 사회의 모델을 탐색하는 데 관심을 갖고 있으며 주요 선진 자본주의 국가들을 대상으로 연구를 진행해 왔다. 주요 저서로 Fairness and Division of Labour in Market Society: A Comparison of the U.S. and German Automotive Industries(New York: Berghahn Books, 2004)가 있으며, 주요 논문으로는 “Associations, Civic Norms and Democracy: Revisiting the Italian Case”(2004), “National Model under Globalization: The Japanese Model and Its Internationalization”(2005), “Politics of Globalization and National Economy: The German Experience Compared with the U.S.”(2012), “Politics of Institutional Change: Evolution of the Irish Social Concertation Model”(2013) 등이 있다. 이외에도 Politics & Society, Theory & Society, Comparative Political Studies, Comparative European Politics, Economic and Industrial Democracy, ‘한국정치학회보’, ‘국제정치논총’ 등 국내외 주요 학술지에 다수의 논문이 게재되었다.
